As many of you know, I have a LOT of pets. Seven rescues to be exact; four cats and three dogs. Clearly, that does not count the tarantula and two goldfish. Regardless, when we have spare time, we like to dabble in making them special treats (because they’re just such good kids)! Here are a few of my favorite Best Damn Vegan Dog Treat Recipes:
Vegan Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Treats:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup mashed ripe banana
1/4 cup natural peanut butter
1/4 cup water
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, mix together the flour and baking powder. In a separate bowl, mix together the mashed banana, peanut butter, and water. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until well combined. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with a cookie cutter. Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
Vegan Sweet Potato and Oat Dog Treats:
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup cooked and mashed sweet potato
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp ground flaxseed
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, mix together the oats, mashed sweet potato, water, and ground flaxseed. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with a cookie cutter. Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
Vegan Carrot and Apple Dog Treats:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/2 cup grated apple
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp ground flaxseed
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, grated carrots, grated apple, water, and ground flaxseed. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with a cookie cutter. Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
Try using different cookie cutters to make these treats into fun shapes. I like to make them into dog bone shapes because why not, right?
Happy Doggy Snacking, friends!
