Can I get real with you guys for a second?

Let’s have a little chit-chat, a tat-on-tat if you will, from my own experience.

Freelancers are the way to go for your business, and I can personally vouch for this. Perhaps you think that because I am a Freelance Writer in St.George , Utah, I might be a bit biased. Believe it or not, I was once a part of an agency before I branched out on my own, so I bring you breaking news from the heart, my friend.

No matter what you are searching for– content creation, digital marketing, website design, SEO, graphic design, etc. – I guarantee that hiring a freelancer will bring a certain je ne sais quoi to the table that a large agency can’t. The quality, the price, and the individuality of a freelancer is something you simply cannot find in an agency.

Without further ado, I bring you 3 Reasons To Choose A Freelancer, and if I have not convinced you to choose a freelancer over an agency once this article is through, then shame shame shame on me!

1- Freelancers offer unbeatable quality and care

The most important reason why choosing a freelance is better than an agency is the quality and care that will go into your projects. Now hear me out.

Freelancers are often just one person.

Why is this important?

Freelancers have a handful of client accounts to look after; a reasonable workload so that they can continue to manage their client accounts comfortably and efficiently. This allows them to provide the one-on-one time and communication necessary to make sure their clients are happy and seeing results.

It also results in more meaningful work, more care put into each project (because clients actually matter to us), consistent communication, and regular reporting

Otherwise known as QUALITY.

Now, on the flip-flop, an agency often has a team of Project Managers (we’re going to call them PM’s in this article).

Depending on the agency you choose, this team can vary in quality and quantity. Which brings us to our next point.

Small Teams, Large Clients

Agencies run on two things– small teams and tons of clients. This translates to… oh yeah, way too many clients for them to give you the individuality and quality needed.

This means you have a choice rando who’s assigned to your project and about 30 other businesses’ projects as well…

Yup, that sounds like one-on-one quality if you ask me! *dripping heavy sarcasm*

Most likely, you have a committed PM on your projects that you communicate with once a month via email or a video chat if you’re lucky. They don’t report to you often, they don’t show you how they are improving your accounts, and they aren’t showing you where you are spending your money.

Other times this means that you hardly hear from your “PM” and every month a new rando that you’ve never spoken to before is asking for updated credit card information for your Google ads.

Sound familiar?

If you have hired an agency for your content and marketing endeavors, you know this is completely accurate, don’t you?

Not to mention, agencies don’t typically disclose how much knowledge, education, or experience these project managers even have. You could be paying an agency $5,000 a month for an intern who’s never used Adwords to waste your money, which is not a platform for noobs.

Yes, this actually happens.

In fact, this is all I have ever seen in my time with an agency. Agencies hire on people for cheap, sometimes from overseas, with no prior knowledge or experience, to run your accounts and manage your marketing budget.

How fun! You are basically paying school children to bring your businesses revenue…

2. Are you blowing your budget? Probably…

Oh yes, maybe this should have been number one? Obviously, what you are spending on your marketing is the most important thing, is it not?

I have personally seen businesses throw wads of cash at agencies and never get results from it.

Like I said… school children.

Marketing sales personnel use pretty words and promise you big things. That’s what they do– I’ve witnessed it oh so many times. That’s why I don’t do sales. I don’t like lying…

Oh scoot, she went there!

In fact, when I left the agency, they had never even told my clients I had left (I wasn’t allowed to tell them). No one reached out to them for months and no work had been done on any of their accounts.

Only until they would receive an email from my random predecessor, asking for updated credit card information, did they realize Leah was gone. Then they noticed that blogs had not been posted in 3 months, and they weren’t receiving leads from Google anymore…

3 months, 6 months, 8 months later, I had nearly all of my old clients reaching out to me telling me that they had been paying the agency $2500 a month, $5,000 A MONTH, and had never seen any work done.

This is incredibly common for an agency. Not only are you paying these huge numbers for work they can’t prove works, but agencies are also notoriously overpriced.

I had a client at the agency paying $5,000 a month for SEO management, 2 SEO blogs a month, and monthly Adwords management.

That is absolutely insane. NEVER pay that much for that amount of work.

This client came to me about 3 months after I left the agency and asked for my rates; I quoted them $1,500 and that included an additional 2 blogs a month.

Long story short, freelancers don’t charge you out the ass (pardon my french, but I feel passionately on this subject).

Agencies are overrated, which is why they are able to so freely rob you without you even knowing.

Always do your research on what you should be spending on marketing. Even if you aren’t looking into my services, please, reach out to me, and let’s have a conversation about what you are looking for in marketing, and how much that work is worth.

As a business owner and a Freelance Writer in St.George , Utah, I want other business owner’s to succeed, not be robbed of their hard-earned money.

3. Freelancers provide individuality & undivided attention

Last but not least, the individuality you will receive from a freelancer is simply incomparable.

What do I mean by individuality?

I mean undivided attention, personalized work, and consistent communication. I mean creating relationships and having a great rapport, freelancer-to-client. Something you will hardly get from an agency.

I’m all about creating relationships with my clients.

I want you to know my character, and I want you to be able to trust in my knowledge and abilities.

When we have our monthly call, I want it to be so casually professional that I can ask you how your dog is doing.

I want to be able to send you a card on your birthday because I am your Freelance Writer in St.George , Utah and I freaking KNOW your birthday!

I want you to feel comfortable texting me with questions and know that I am available 24/7.

This undivided attention and rapport is rarely created in an agency-to-client environment. The reality is that your PM has 30 other clients too, and they aren’t giving any of them the attention they need.

Your business is invaluable. Why would you put your money and energy into an agency that doesn’t care as much about your business as you do?

Freelancers will always give you personalized service, reasonable rates, and provide higher quality work that will actually bring you results.

So just checking… how are you feeling? Have I convinced you that freelancers are the way to go?!

I feel like I did a pretty darn good job.
